About the Artwork

A Small Badger sculpture by Ama Menec, looks over her shoulder to see if it safe to come out of the sett yet. This maquette is small enough to fit into your cupped hands and smooth as a sand washed pebble, but being bronze she is heavy as a rock.
Very Tactile.
If you wish you had spotted this one earlier contact Ama Menec by following the details below and discuss with her the possibility of something similar in a different pose, different material or size.

Artist Comment

I`ve been actively opposing the British Badger Cull since 2012 when I set up a badger vaccination scheme for South Devon where I live. In 2014 I lead The Great Badger Trail, a sponsored protest march from Gloucester to Westminster, a distance of 130 miles. Half way to London we were met by ecologist Tom Langton who explained about Badger Trophic Cascades, and it was then that I realised what a catastrophe this was for all of our native wildlife, pushing many already threatened ones to the edge of extinction. Using the 2011 Ecological Impact Report from FERA, (part of DEFRA), I am working on a Badger Trophic Cascade sculpture and this little badger is the maquette for the life sized badger that makes the basis of this complex ecological sculpture. When it is finished there will be up to 100 species of plants and animals that you loose, flooding out of the back of the badger in a big spiral tide. The two species that thrive will be surging ahead out of the badgers shoulders.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
