About the Artwork

Modern Abstract Contemporary Civic Pride Kinetic Light Sculpture Memorial To Technology. Will Create A Bright Focal Point Outside.

By Dee Dee Morrison who writes……
“Recycled aluminum, coloured lucite and solar panels were used to fabricate this powerful 15 ft. tall Sun-Catcher sculpture for the City of Clearwater, Florida. “This is the wonderful opportunity for a sustainable public art project along the islands in the Cleveland Street District.” says Deedee Morrison.
As a sculptor and installation artist, Morrison has a particular affinity for plants, other natural forms, and light. The sculptor has coupled her interest in the natural world with a fascination for technical and scientific advances.

The color scheme of the Sun-Catcher sculpture mirrors the vibrant yellow hues of the sun. A solar panel is installed on the top panel of the sun totem – capturing the energy of the sun during the day and emitting its dramatic stored light at night, giving the sculpture an added dimension. This energy is released at night in the form of light – maintaining an energy balance that cannot be borrowed against. Sun-Catcher is a visual display of the power and energy that`s available every day from a single solar panel`s relationship with the sun.

Artist Comment

A unique style has evolved that reflect the artistʼs understanding of the natural world, by using heavy industrial metals and laser jet cutting methods to create solar powered sculptures. By necessity, nature has solved many of the problems we are currently facing in our physical and built environments. I attempt to imitate the design principles that exist in the world to create sustainable solutions with art, by mimicking the patterns and strategies found in nature.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
