About the Artwork

Small Sudan White Rhino Bronze Sculpture With An Oxpecker On It`s Back.
For sale for Indoors Inside Interior display in your House,Note the Bronze resin version is £2,980. A lasting memory of this gallant and endearing creature by Camilla Le May, who writes….

Sudan was the last male Northern White Rhino in existence, the world’s rarest large mammal. Camilla spent 4 months in Kenya sculpting Sudan from life. Fascinated by the symbiotic relationship she observed between Sudan and many other small animals, she decided to include an Oxpecker who she often saw with Sudan: “The flighting bird highlights the impact of extinction of a mega herbivore on a larger ecosystem and symbolizes the ‘soul’s’ departure, given that the elderly Sudan (and potentially his species’) days are numbered.” Her aim is to preserve the memory of this iconic animal, in bronze, least we forget, and to draw attention to the northern white rhino’s plight. The bronze was also conceived to raise funds for rhinos with $9000 being raised so far. There are no northern white rhinos left in their war torn home ranges in the wild, having been poached for their horn, which is prized in the east as a traditional Chinese medicine and worth more per kg than gold. Ironically the horn is only keratin, like our nails, and has no proven medicinal value. Sudan was captured from the wild age 2, in 1975, and taken to safety at the Dvur Kralove Zoo, Czech Republic. Then in 2009, he and three others were moved to The Ol Pejeta Conservancy, Kenya, where it was hoped that the climate and rich grasslands would provide favourable breeding conditions but sadly it was in vain, which is why vets are now urgently pursuing IVF and stem cell methods.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
