Grotesque Stone Wall Mounted Sculpture.Carved In Bath Stone.
Carving By Thomas Nicholls was selected to become one of the new contemporary grotesque sculptures which will be built into the south front of St. Georges Chapel, Windsor.
By Thomas J Nicholls who writes…..
“I wanted to create a playful idea that the Chapel has a guardian giant who peers down at visitors to the site. I am particularly pleased with the way that the moulding itself has become very much a part of my design being made to appear malleable, bent down with ease by the giant in an attempt to give him a kind of timeless power.”
With this carving Thomas created the sense that the giant is very much part of the fabric of the building, literally living in and as part of the building. The giant will appear old and wise but will also retain a level of mysticism for its audience so that he remains intriguing.

More about thomas j nicholls- The ArtParkS Guarantee
All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.
For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.
Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
