About the Artwork

Male and Female Head sculptures, This piece consists of the life size heads of a couple in conversation, as they sweep past each other, by the Accomplished Sculptor Gregory MacMillan.

Artist Comment

Many will know this through the film Dangerous Liasons with Glenn Close. The original book, by Pierre Choderlos de Laclos (1783), is much more interesting. It depicts, in the most elegant French, the stylised manners and feelings of two libertins of the times of the Ancien Regime, when pursuing amours was the thing to do. Before a harsher reality stepped in. La Marquise de Mertueil and Le Conte de Valmont are both of them experienced players. Their goal is Love, or at least passion, while their true pleasure is in manipulating people. They are both busily engaged in seducing other people, while the only true relationship is between themselves. The book is in the form of the letters between them, in an era of fervent letter-writing, and the others: the seduced demoiselle, the duped lover; poor Valmont, it comes to a sticky end for him. All his plots crumbled. This piece is as close to narrative as I come: and shows how, while he thinks he is running affairs, it is of course she who really pulls the strings.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.

  • How Does ArtParkS Ensure Your Protection?

From the moment you place an order and pay ArtParkS, you are protected because half of the payment is immediately used to pay the artist’s deposit, while the other half is retained until the sculpture is delivered safely.

Insurance in transit should be arranged with the artist prior to ordering.
