About the Artwork

Contemporary Modern Stone Head Carving statue, by Tamas Baraz,
In the oeuvre of sculptor Tamás Baráz the love of stone materials and the machining of stone with virtuoso skills are coupled with a lean, austere, geometric language of design. This simplified expression is based on two experiences: the first is the cultural approach and the feedback to technical means and signals, and the other is the basic dilemma of sculpture, the research and plastic citation of philosophical dimensions of the statics.

Artist Comment

The strategy of philosophy can only be caught through abstraction. The slice of a head in stone is on a par with a plane section in it’s two dimension. Any kind of two dimensional works are in a way of abstraction and this is how they can be an easier way of understanding. Although the whole work seems “geometric” it is also representational with its silhouette and with the human lips. This opposition also provides a mysterious tension to the work. The lips; place and sign of sensualism, the crystallized “idea”; right in the human mind as a presentation of philosophy, and the silhouette of the skull; emerging the question of life and death are three major fields that determines the human thinking.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
