Artist Comment

This work was commissioned by Municipality Istanbul, Büyükcekmece and now the work is placed in their sculpture park near to the Mimar Sinan bridge. It was one of the first large, stainless geometrical steel pieces I made. It was a very nice adventure to experience the behaviour of steel during the construction process and to learn how to solve all difficulties. The Idea is an abstraction of a head and also the abstraction of the immaterial thought that one can have. Here both is materialized and transformed with a sculptural approach, where volume, portion, positive and negative space, and the nature of the material matters.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
