Mediums Used
Lynn Mahoney`s sculpture is constructed with a steel armature for big work then clad in beaten and treated copper sheet, the copper is good to use it colours beautifully lending itself well to the outdoors as the surface of the form evolves over time. The forms produced are quite varied pots, botanical, animals generally full size animals and large tall pots.
Having always lived the work, and being pleased with a piece when it feels believable and accessible to all, it`s good to see children and adults touching and feeling the coldness of the metals used. The work is mainly designed for the garden, the work to evolve with its environment. Working with sheet and reclaimed copper loving it`s malleable nature, not trying to hide the making processes it has to be honest work, showing the seams and braze, accepting it all as part of it`s make up. Copper is beautiful outside. The dream of seeing a field of copper butterflies and dragonflies swaying in amongst long grasses, or a troop of ostriches bolting out of a woods.
