About the Artwork

Semi-abstract wall-mounted chest sculpture, created with various materials.
“Turtle Vest,” one in a series of breastplate sculptures, serves as a symbol of wisdom and knowledge, a mythological reminder, and an environmental protector. In the Chinese Feng Shui tradition, the turtle represents the water element. According to the principles of feng shui  it is beneficial to display a turtle in the rear of the home to support family life and personal relationships. It’s a hanging decoration for sale. For Indoors Inside interior use by the inventive narrative and conceptual American sculptress Christine Palamidessi.

Artist Comment

The surface of the sculpture resembles and feels like leather. I created the Turtle Vest breastplates for display in a row with other breastplates that I have made--but it would look terrific alone in a wood-paneled den, or on the back wall of your home.* (see last paragraph) Very interesting to me: The turtle`s connection to creation myths. In many cultures the turtle personifies water, the moon, the Earth, time, immortality, and fertility In Hindu mythology it is associated not only with earth’s creation, but also as bearing the burden of the whole world. Connecting the Hindu myth with Western mythology, we can find a statue of Aphrodite/Venus (Aphrodite Ourania) with her foot resting on a tortoise at Musee du Louvre. * In the Chinese Feng Shui tradition, the turtle represents the water element. According to the principles of feng shui  it is beneficial to display a turtle in the rear of the home to support family life and personal relationships.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
