Artist Comment

Finding this shape is the result of creating some distortions of coral formations. Numerous preliminary drawings led to experiments in model building in clay. I prefer to start with vaguely familiar objects and strip away information until they become less recognizable. The resulting forms are references to the meandering nature of the thought process. The finished composition leaves the viewer with the comfort of familiarity and the uncertainty of not being able to truly identify or categorize any of the forms. The materials have been chosen because of the reference they make to industry. Steel has long been associated with durability and utility but I make every effort to focus attention on the materials appearance. The implied movement of the piece contradicts all the things that we understand about steel and bronze. The materials are distressed in an effort to reproduce the effects of use or age. These are clues pointing to the notion that these objects may have experienced a former life.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
