About the Artwork

Two Nudes and Technology sculpture.by the intriguing Sculptress Teresa Wells, who writes….
“The phrase ‘House of Cards’, is synonymous with political intrigue and morality. Originally the title was used in a British political thriller of 1990. However the themes of adultery, honesty, compulsion and desire to obtain power, are alleged to have been drawn from Shakespeare’s Macbeth and Richard the Third.

Netflix and Kevin Spacey, re worked the series recently, receiving many awards and nominations. It is entrenched within western popular culture and visits many of the moral dilemmas that encompass the human condition.

I used this title, to describe the fragile nature of communication behaviour, and suggested relationship breakdown and isolation. The figures within this piece are positioned with hunched postures and are turned with backs to one another. There is huge space between them symbolising disconnectedness.

Empathy with the human experience, feelings of neglect, loneliness, and vulnerability are common states. With an estimated 4.77 billion mobile phone users globally, encountering the sense of isolation is becoming universal. Smart phones allow us to engage more, to access information when we want, to connect with more people than those immediately surrounding us. They ping and ring, and demand our attention. Social scientists and psychologists write about linking mobile technology use, to anxiety, depression and addiction.

I use narratives which are psychological because I am interested in what makes us human. Overuse of anything to the point of addiction is damaging to relationship, self, longevity and existence. The problem as far as I interpret, is that the majority of our mobile communication such as phones, smart phones, smart watches, and laptops are portable, and have become essential to us in our day to day living. It is a current behavioural trend.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
