Artist's Comment

In August and September, 2013, During the Greek Marble Initiative, I carved the sculpture titled "Diving Woman II" from a 4-ton block of Kozani marble. A vertical, diving female figure, in high relief, is captured in the split-second before her fingertips break the surface of the water. The sculpture is life-size, modeled on my wife, sculptor Sherry Tipton and stands 250cm (8 feet) tall. The figure is nude, feminine and athletic. In this sculpture,I present a woman who personifies great confidence and daring. She is strong, physically, emotionally and intellectually and is taking a bold risk. She is ready to take this leap of chance. And she does so with grace, beauty and style.
