About the Artwork

Copper coin life size nude male torso sculpture for sale by David Corbett, who writes…

“This stunning life size sculpture was originally modeled in clay before being molded and cast using 1p and 2p coins. To begin with, a life model was observed and carefully measured to construct the sculpture, from bone structure through to muscle form. The pose of the model had a slight twist to accentuate the overall form of the subject, and create a more dynamic piece.

The mold taken from this clay version was used to create `Bent Copper`, which was made by carefully bending the coins and layering them inside the mould, following the contours of the muscles. Being made in this way the piece maintains the form and detail of the original subject.

The coins range in tone and reflect light differently depending on which angle the piece is viewed from.

It is possible to polish the coins and create a dazzling finish that shines. Please contact me to discuss the effect of your choice.

Artist Comment

Whilst being exhibited at the Southampton Boat Show, the sculpture drew a crowd of people who were fascinated by the man made of coins. Being a very tactile piece, people couldn`t help touching the scaly, metallic surface. `Bent Copper` is suitable for indoor or outdoor spaces. If placed outdoors, over time the copper will age and change colour creating another unique effect. It is the perfect piece to create a talking point in any garden or home and has also proved to be a popular sculpture within corporate spaces.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
