Mediums Used
Her name is Sonja Wasser and she is a freelance artist, sculptor and painter.
The beginning of her creative expression can be found in the classical antique, the art of modelling and graphics. The sculptor has created a considerable number of sculptures, which can also be found in public spaces. Born in Switzerland, she works in her studio with sandstone, alabaster and marble as well as bronze, clay and paper clay. The materials reveal that she loves both the modelling method and the technique of sculpting. She either takes a targeted approach and follows her own sketches and models or allows herself to be guided by the structure and nature of the “found object” and develops the final form during the working process. The sculptures created in this diverse way include classical portraits and figures that show the relationship between humans and animals, as well as moods of nature and people.
Her closeness to nature, her love of animals, the forest and plants are her inspiration.
Nature
“Open yourself to nature and it will open your heart,
Feel nature and you will feel yourself,
Love nature and you will love yourself,
Connect with nature,
so you are connected with the whole world.”
Sonja Wasser
The beauty of nature has a great influence on the artist.
It is important for her to capture a moment, a certain energy, both in humans and in the animal or plant world, which she expresses in her art.
She loves to work by hand.
Her favourite materials are natural stone, clay, bronze and mixed media in textiles and plaster.
