Rupert Till creates unique wire sculptures in steel wire, bronze wire and copper wire. 30 years ago starting out in wire netting , he now manages to create his art from single wires .
He has exhibited at RHS CHELSEA for over 25 years and has exhibited his wire sculptures in many gold awarding winning show gardens.
He has an immense following from all over the world, and has exhibits in America, Britain, Paris and Ireland. He now lives and has his studio in the Cotswolds in the south of England.
His work is familiar because of his constant illustrations in the quality Press.
Over the 28 years Till has established himself worldwide as the pioneer of life-size wire animal sculptures. His early inspiration came from his childhood in Yorkshire.
He grew up having a passionate relationship with nature. It was this insight into the make up of animals that gave him a fascination of how muscle ligaments work thus now giving him the ability to create work that is alive.
After studying a Chelsea School of Art and starting his career he moved to Ireland to work but also to fulfill his passion for hunting and racing where there no better place. He spent ten years amongst some of the best bloodstock in the world studying this time the equine form and developing his technique.
“I love to draw, my art evolves from the lines that I see which the wire echoes perfectly.”
Till is inspired by a horse’s speed, agility, scale and power. “Their shapes are very sculptural and the special relationship we can have with a horse is one that is completely extraordinary. The trust that develops between man and beast over time is one that is totally special, they all have their own personalities”.
He rides his horses most days and has created a small sculpture garden near Winchcombe , Gloucestershire.
