Mediums Used

Philip Melling is working predominantly in metals, Philip creates an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture.
His style ranges from figurative to abstract, often curvaceous and tactile, but with a coarseness that is lent from working with bare steel.
The current collection `Elements` focuses on Earth, Air, Water and Fire, and describes the reaction of when those elements meet.

Developing the collection Melling concentrated on the process of using repetitive form of material – flat steel bar, to generate concepts and capture the movement of elemental reactions.
The forms are designed appropriately for indoor display, but are perfectly suited to larger scale and outside installations for private or public spaces.

Working predominantly in metals, I create an eclectic range of sculpture and contemporary furniture. Highly aesthetic in nature, you will find much of my work curvaceous and tactile.

Developing my collections I concentrate on the proccess of using repetitive form of material – to generate concepts and capture movement.
The sculptures are designed with positive form and negative space in mind, and are appropriate for indoor display or larger scale installations for private or public spaces.

I use patination to create unique finishes for my work, particularly when using non-ferrous metals such as bronze and copper. This added element not only gives greater depth to the artworks, but allows me to experiment with the process and develop new techniques.

My sculptures are installed or held by collectors nationally and internationally.
