Open and alive artistic experience in the channels of the experimental dimension, with autochthonous figures, myths and legends of the Basque country. His sculpture, as the language of memory, is a luminous communication that contributes to giving a characteristic, personal stamp, which makes it the search for his ancestors. The essence and the voluble image are combined with the mythological fables of a long sociological poem, aesthetically illuminative, to the echo of a narrative refectory. Religion for spirits. In the task, in the imagination and in the illumination, he finds the most precise elements to enhance the forms and put them within reach, keeping alive a faith and illusions. Ways and fantasies of reflection so that the popular expansions know where the game is going by offering a sacred glass to the trivia. Iron, stone and recycled wood from old farmhouses or baserris, is the material that uses, living material that recovers and transforms into unique and exclusive works with specifically ethno-cultural features. Born in Zalla on June 20, 1967, sculptor from Las Encartaciones de Vizcaya. One of the representative artists of the Basque scene. Creator who is part of the generation of Basque sculptors.
The artist`s work focuses mainly on Basque mythological sculpture. Although he is known for his work in sculpture, he has stood out in the Basque cultural sphere thanks to his different talents as an artist, sculptor, writer and designer. Like the old masters of the most well-known trend of Basque art such as: Jorge Oteiza, Eduardo Chillida, Agustín Ibarrola and Néstor Basterretxea. Surrealism differentiates him from those marked by abstraction and geometric schematism.
Around 1990, with his employment in the forge, he started working with iron. He then began a cycle of non-imitative sculptures, increasing his concern for Basque art and culture.
In 2005 a stage of experimentation began. Until then, curved lines predominated in his language and now he will adopt more moved and restless surrealist rhythms, sculpted in wood.
The scale in Totemism had been approached at the end of the 80s with his plastic experience in wood, a matter that due to its lower weight facilitated the increase in size and due to its soft texture and low ductility, it opened a new experience in its investigation. ethnic-cultural plastic. At the same time, he developed an important activity in the field of literature. During the 90`s he investigated the Basque language and the popular manifestations of his people. In 2016 he published "Basque Mythology". Interpretation book of Basque mythology, being its best known text so far. This book makes a defense of Basque popular culture and its identity. In 2020 he alternates and addresses graphic design with a series of illustrations that narrate and recreate an illustrated book in which he unites Japanese culture and Basque art. He has exhibited his work in national and international exhibitions, placing it as an important reference within the world of Basque mythology.
