Born in Pisa, Marzia Colonna was accepted into art school at the age of twelve. This was followed by the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, and then a move to England with her husband in 1970. Work initially concentrated on drawing and sculpture. Colonna`s first exhibition in London was held at the Campbell and Franks Gallery in 1979. Subsequently, her work developed into an exploration of the body merging as the body becomes landscape.
Her work is in many collections, both in Europe, the United States and Australasia.
“Marzia Collonia has a unique ability to be uncompromised by her instinctive sensuality; her sense of line, of smooth tactility, of undulation and of firm readiness never softens or lessens the essential strength either of her materials or of her deep-rooted inner power. There is nothing massive about the work, but its force is immense”.
