Having studied at Staffordshire Art College he went on to work with the remarkable Jonathan Wylder on the mammoth monument, the first Marquess of Westminster in Belgrave Square, amongst others. Working in bronze, ceramic, wood, reconstructed stone and resin his sculptures can be found all around the world. Very versatile and eclectic in his approach he somehow excels at everything he touches. Highly collectable.
Martin has been a professional figurative sculptor since 1996. He studied figurative sculpture at Stafford Art College, under the RBS sculptors Michael Talbot and Steven White, before this he was the assistant to the well established public art sculptor John McKenna RBS. Prior to this he was a professional woodcarver.
Martin has assisted Jonathan Wylder on all his large public and private commissions since 1996. He has also worked as an assistant to other Sculptors including Irena Sedlecka FRBS on the Beau Brummel monument in London.
My work is constantly evolving and exploring new directions but always retaining a strong figurative basis. I have recently completed a series of sculptures based around the feelings and emotions connected with identity and how its perceived by the viewer. Using the need for facial expression.
Martin is still happy to under take commission work and recently completed the forst of three life size full figure portraits of a private clients children.
With a life time fascination with the wasy the body moves, I find myself drawn to dancers, especially contemporary dance rather that classical ballet. I enjoy the challenge of capturing the essence of movement, balance and tension with a static sculpture.
During the time since leaving College, Martin has enjoyed continued success, having worked in private collections in Great Britain, America, and Asia. Working mostly to comission he has produced work for many private clients and companies. His work covers a diverse range of sculpture including public art, garden sculpture, animal sculpture and Motor racing sculpture. His work is produced in bronze, wood, ceramic, reconstructed stone and resin.
