Mediums Used

Karen started making her unique sculptures in 2004.Making people smile and playing with their imagination is the driving force behind her sculptures. Rather than creating an accurate representation Karen observes the spirit and character of the subject with a touch of humour, deliberately leaving out detail to be filled in by the viewer.
Karen`s sculptures are different from what most people think of as traditional outdoor sculpture. She works with wire and a variety of recycled material, including old jeans, t-shirts, curtains etc which she treats with a special resin that makes her sculptures solid and hard wearing, making them suitable for both indoor and outdoor settings, being weatherproof all year round. Karen then hand paints her sculptures to look like metal, paying great attention to detail for example all the standing faeries are wearing large pants under their dresses.
Karen did an art foundation course then avoided training to develop her own individual style.
Each one of her sculptures are all “one-offs” with no two identical. No moulds or patterns are used so you are guaranteed to be getting a truly original highly collectable work of art. They range in size from 10″ tall to life size pieces.
Karen exhibits her work in galleries all over the UK and has sold several pieces to the USA.

After years of working in various mediums I feel I have at last found my vocation, I now work full time as a sculptor in my garden studio, in Derbyshire.
My work is all self taught and I deliberately avoided training so I could develop my own individual style. My sculptures are all “one-offs” with no two identical. No moulds or patterns of any kind are used and no castings are made, so you are guaranteed to be getting a truly original highly collectable work of art
My sculptures aren`t meant to show an accurate representation, but more the spirit and character of the subject, with a touch of humour. I feel I have achieved my goal if I manage to put a smile on someone?s face when they view my artwork.
I work with a combination of wire and recycled material (old jeans, t-shirts, jumpers etc) which is treated to make them solid and hard wearing which makes them suitable for both home or garden, being weatherproof all year round. I then hand paint them, all of which is very time consuming, taking many hours to make.
Although my sculptures may look fragile they are in fact very “sturdy”
All of my sculptures come with a thank you card, signed and dated by myself.
