Mediums Used

Jon Barlow Hudson has been creating large-scale sculpture projects for public and other environments around the world since 1976: 27 different countries, including the Irish isle: 24 throughout China alone. He works on any scale, in a wide range of materials, in various motifs and types of installation.
My work may be seen as iconic for the most part, or symbolic, very often referencing a center, whether actual or spatial. It often works with balance, space in contrast with form, implied space, ambiguity if incorporating mirror surfaces, light and darkness, a continuum implied or actual, movement and flow such as a vortex, interior and exterior, natural/organic with man-made-?a balance of yin and yang aspects.

My first % for Art commission was with MiamiDade in 1979, POLARIS, for the Homestead Public Library. Since then I have created dozens of such projects throughout the States and in over 25 different countries around the world. The largest project to date is the 100 foot high PARADIGM, one of two major works (MORNING STAR II, # 1 is in Cleveland, OH, 7` dia.) which I was commissioned to create for World Expo 88 in Brisbane, Australia. I work on any scale, in a wide range of materials and in various motifs and types of installation. I have worked in all the metals and have a particular fondness for stone.
My projects tend to be abstract, often geometric in one way or another, sometimes including glass (ETERNAL CYCLE:GLASS ROAD), water (CADUCEUS) or light (ARK OF MOON and SUN and CADUCEUS). The stone works tend to be a balance of natural aspects with human interventions. Certain projects might have more literal or figurative aspects, such as the KOKANEE/EN-TEE-TEUK, TREE OF KNOWLEDGE or CONTEMPORARY CORNUCOPIA. I have been working with an actual figurative motif inspired by a unique ancient Etruscan bronze votive figurine in the museum at Fiesole: the 3 meter version is in Hui`An, China. The life-size version was recently installed at Andres Inst. of Art Sculpture Trails in Brookline, NH.
