John Douglas Joyce is one of those rare Artists that can`t be tied down into any Pigeon Hole or Category with his astonishing Spectrum of Styles and subject matter. He will be a headache to the `Experts` on the Antiques Roadshow in years to come.

What defines a true artist irrespective of his or her chosen discipline is not just the desire, but the need to create. In Joyce`s case that chosen discipline is sculpture.

He is an established sculptor living&working in the UK, and also manages a small bronze foundry, enabling him to cast his own work.

Joyce has been sculpting now for many, many, years. Sculpture is his passion, and this love for his craft, unquestionably reflects in the quality&craftsmanship intrinsic within the work!

He has worked in various mediums, but ultimately, bronze remains best suited to his current work, for its sheer gravitas, integral beauty&subsequent archival provenance.

His current work, although an eclectic mix of varying subject matter&scale, nevertheless strives to encompass a coherent theme throughout. An attempt to deceive the viewer, through manipulation&illusion as to the weight&balance of an object, and thus create a dynamic tension between the two, and subsequently the effect this has on the balance of a composition as a whole.
