Mediums Used
Jeremy Palmer carves mainly Oak, it`s a unique natural material, very strong, resilient and full of character. He never uses preservatives or finishes. For interior display the oils in the wood provide a warm, silky sheen. Outside, his sculptures will age gracefully to a finish reminiscent of medieval timber buildings.
“The future, for me is about creating new challenges, making larger more compound structures incorporating contrasting materials such as steel and copper.

Jeremy Palmer has been making things for as long as he can remember because he was given the means and encouragement to learn by experience. Formal qualifications were not high on his agenda.
At college he studied Graphic Design and Photography in Newton Abbott and Gloucester but was a messy designer and never felt comfortable with a camera.
He has always been self-employed and after a few years of - boat building, photography, sheep farming, furniture making,
sculpting and teaching he settled down to making constructional joinery in his workshop.
The following 30 years was spent in partnership, modernizing and restoring old buildings and designing and constructing new ones. They specialized in the use of traditional techniques and materials. Oak was a main component in many of the builds.
Now he has finished building and has time to explore the creative potential of his familiar materials. He is striving to make sculptures that are - aesthetic, tactile and mentally stimulating.
He classifies his sculptures as being abstract/figurative and is influenced by architecture, negative spaces and African carving.
