Mediums Used

David Burns primarily uses natural materials to create a conversation with the viewer and their natural world. Creating connections within spaces, both indoors and out, for the viewer to relax and contemplate thoughts provoked by the actions of the artist.

Since finishing his degree at the Winchester School of Art in 2009, were he specialised in Sculpture, he has been exhibiting work across America in Minnesota, Vermont and New York.

A few years ago I decided to focus my attention on altering our natural environment, both inside and out. To create spaces of contemplation, reflection or places of understanding oneself. By creating these places for people I am trying to re-connect them with the idea that all things are natural, our emotions, reactions, our environment and ourselves.

Biography

2010 Internship at Salem Art Works, New York:
Chosen by committee to take part in the Internship program at Salem Art Works, New York. Where I assisted resident artists, worked on the upkeep of the grounds and facilities, along with public tours and exhibition set-ups. In exchange I was able to take workshops in glass moulding and blowing and several Iron pours.

2009 Intern fellowship at the Franconia Sculpture Park, Minneapolis:
Selected for the Franconia Sculpture Park I assist on the up keep of the park, ranging from the assisting Jerome fellowship artists, the caretaking of sculptures and keeping the park grounds to a good standard. I also work along side young Children and underprivileged youths to make collaborative sculptures. When I am not working for the park I am given the time to create my own work, which will stay at the park as a permenant piece to the collection of the Franconia Sculpture Park.

Calvin Klein UK:
At Calvin Klein I was the Visual Merchandiser, for this illusive brand here in England I worked on the overall look of the main store, from window and cabinet displays to mannequins and hanging rails, I created looks that not only worked solely for the brand but also something that would beat any rival competition. I was in complete control of how several stores across the country should look, and was commended by my superiors regularly. Furthermore I arranged stock flow, rotation and ordering. As a supervisor my role included the training of all new staff, organising rotas and stock supervision.
