“!n its stance within the sculpture, exudes a sense of power and majesty. Its robust form, even in the geometric, angular structure created by the stainless steel material, hints at the raw strength of nature. The low-slung posture and the forward-facing gaze give it an air of alertness, as if it’s ever-watchful in its changing environment. The use of stainless steel, with its sleek and polished surface, represents the sophistication of human creation. The precise angles and the reflective quality of the metal showcase human ingenuity and craftsmanship, while also creating a contrast with the organic nature of the polar bear.
My creative inspiration for this work stemmed from years of pondering over the philosophical conundrum of our relationship with nature. I aimed to transform these abstract ideas into a concrete artistic form. The creative process was a meticulous journey of translating my thoughts into a three-dimensional sculpture. I studied the anatomy and behavior of polar bears, observing how they navigate their icy habitats. I then experimented with different geometric shapes and structures to capture the essence of the bear’s strength and the delicacy of human-made artistry.
The theme of “the Polar Bear” revolves around the harmonious coexistence and the inherent conflicts between humans and nature. In the sculpture, the reflective surface of the stainless steel can be seen as a metaphor for our self-reflection as a species. Just as the bear’s image is reflected in the metal, we are also mirrored in the natural world, and our actions have consequences. The angular structure might symbolize the barriers and disruptions we create in nature, while the bear’s form represents the enduring power of the natural world.

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.
For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.
Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
