“This work is hand-built using a semi- refractory clay sourced in Verona, Italy.A bronze version could considered.”

Artist Comment

My sculpture is presently concerned with both representation and form and was influenced by a period of study at the Italian Mint in Rome which lead me to consider the figure in a monumental or symbolic light. This encouraged me to simplify my own sculpture and in some pieces where I have tried to pare down elements to the essential, there is a resulting primitive simplicity about the work. In contrast, the sobriety associated with the monumental has lead me to produce work which is essentially ironic in nature, humour being the instinctive way in which to deal with the realities of life. The Bather presents a juxtaposition between solid mass and finer detail. The female figure is seated however she is not passive. She is conscious and alert as if waiting for an expected, inevitable event in time. She is an ?active? participant rather than a purely passive sitter.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.

  • How Does ArtParkS Ensure Your Protection?
