About the Artwork

Beautifully Placed and Carved Wood Wine Fairy Statuette, by Monks Marvels, whose love for these little people shines through with all his work.

Artist Comment

Melancholy was the second wine fairy I carved, and is probably my favourite so far. She was originally made to sit on a wine glass, representing a more sad emotion than the calmness of my first piece. I like the idea that people can look at my fairies as if they were people watching, what events might have transpired in their little lives for them to be where they are now. She was hand carved from a single piece of Oak wood, using a variety of knives and hand chisels, and finished by hand sanding and oiling with walnut oil. I was sad to see her go, but this fairy had a home promised for her before she was caught by my hands. I'm happy that she still has her fairy name.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
