About the Artwork

Life-size study of the beautiful Arabian horse wearing a traditional Bedouin headstall in red, with a beautiful grey patina by Gill Parker, the incomparable equestrian and wildlife artist.

Artist Comment

The Arabian horse is known throughout the world for its influence on other breeds and its beauty. I love to portray all types of horses, but the Arab is a particular favourite. It has certain characteristics that make it immediately identifiable, but in art I find these are often taken to extreme and it is sometimes portrayed almost as a ‘caricature’. I am always conscious of this and try and keep a degree of realism in my work. Arabians have such natural beauty I don’t feel they need any enhancement. The amazing patinas that are now available allowed me to contrast a traditional bridle and authentic horse colour to make what is, I hope, a striking sculpture. I have made a range of life size-horse heads which have been extremely popular. They have the impact of size and scale, whilst occupying a small footprint, making them accessible for more situations and smaller spaces.

  • The ArtParkS Guarantee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the artists themselves, stating the material they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors, they have a guarantee of 10 years, subject to the effects of weathering, which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them regular cleaning and maintenance.

For instance, bronze, and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze, will acquire a green patina, usually rather sought after. All can attract moss, lichen, and a greenish pollen, especially under trees, which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing-up liquid.

Iron and steel will oxidise (rust), and this falls outside our guarantee.

Organic material like wood and bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited. You should discuss any guarantee directly with the artist, as this too falls outside our guarantee.
