Artist Comment

Standing in the Mall Galleries during summer recess with eight and ten year olds running around on a `Haribo High`, with pop beats pounding out, their reception to their private view was playful, fun and enjoyable. Their exuberance had altered the sanctity of the gallery and the gallery frame had become humanised. With this in mind I decided to explore the concept of the audience`s need for a comfort zone. Unable to find true safety we create an illusion based on our childhood memories of nurture, happiness and gratification. I wanted to develop a relationship with my audience, creating a `buzz`, a must have, by making an executive playground, thus congratulating the audience and myself for being western middle class. Playgrounds are a safe environment where we can play `lets pretend` with a `safe` element of danger. I have decided that no matter how dark the subject I am considering I will treat it in a deceptively light and flippant manner. I want to lull you into a receptive comfort zone, and then unbalance you. Have you ever been in a meeting where you are swinging your chair backwards and forwards, frustrated or bored with the agenda? The seesaw will mean everyone will be working together, if any of your colleagues are not connected with the sway of the meeting then the seesaw won`t rock with the work. the other connotation is that the movement of the sculpture would be likened to cogs turning, and the thought process being physical and flowing. In balance with your partners, as the movement should only come about with everyone co-operating and playing together. An investigation into team building and balance.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
