About the Artwork

Black African Rhinoceros Head Sculpture, by Heinrich Filter, the remarkable South African wildlife sculptor who has such a high reputation in his homeland where competition is so fierce, is now getting better known elsewhere for his incredible skill. He is one of the few artists who cast his work as he does with everything else in the process himself, so he is certain that everything is up to his own very high standard.

Artist Comment

The first time I was sculpting in the field, all I saw of this magnificent Black Rhino was its head sticking out from behind the bush. The rhino's horn evolved as a defensive weapon. And yet it is no defence against man's greed. Each of my sculptures is made by myself - individually by hand - from beginning to end - sculpting, making the mold and wax (using the lost wax method), cast in my own foundry 'The Black Dog Foundry', finishing, patinating and mounting on the base. Each of the limited editions is made on order. The sculpture will be ready for shipping from South Africa approx 5 to 7 weeks after receipt of order.

  • The ArtParkS Guarentee

All the sculptures on the website are described by the Artists themselves stating the materiel they are made from and their dimensions. If they are stated to be suitable for outdoors they have a guarentee of 10 years subject to the effects of weathering which will alter their colour and finish over the years unless you give them  regular cleaning and maintenance. For instance Bronze and to a lesser extent bronze resin/cold cast bronze will aquire a green patina, usually rather sought after and all could attract moss  lichen and a greeny pollen especially under trees which should be removed regularly with warm water and washing up liquid.
Iron and steel will oxidise(rust ) and this falls outside our guarentee.
Organic materiel like wood, bark willow is variable and depends to a great extent on where it is sited and you should discuss any guarentee direct with the Artist as this too falls outside our Guarentee.
