Credentials

Biography

Terry was born in Kent in 1951 to Irish parents from County Kerry. Educated in a grammar school, Terry went on to work in various commercial establishments in the City of London before attending Ravensbourne and Wimbledon Schools of Art. After moving to Wales and whilst continuing to devote spare time to making sculpture he worked in a factory where he learnt metal-working skills. 2003 saw him take up a post as an art instructor to the visually-impaired in Swansea.

Influences

Terry now makes most of his sculpture in steel so influences have to include the usual suspects, principal amongst whom are David Smith, Anthony Caro, Pablo Picasso and Naum Gabo. In a sense these are influencers of his style more than substance for which he has to thank his tutors at Wimbledon School of Art and especially Peter Startup, acknowledged as a very fine sculptor and exceptional teacher.
