Shivashtie Poonwassie explores the boundary between the inner self and the outer world. Shivashtie mainly focuses on the head and figure as vehicles for exploring issues surrounding uniqueness and individuality; from the private reality that exists within each of us to the public face on show. Shivashtie combines her interest of the individual with her passion for material, texture and surface; her sculptures reflect her ambitious and experimental nature.
Shivashtie Poonwassie is an artist and sculptor who explores the notion of reality and the individual; she is fascinated by the way we see and how internal realities influence interpretation and perception. Shivashtie works intuitively, using materials, process, texture and surface creating sculptural works and paintings which address our uniqueness and individuality.

Born in Trinidad, West Indies Shivashtie has lived and worked for over 40 years in London. With a background in Psychology Shivashtie has been successfully exhibiting sculptures and paintings influenced by her interest in the individual and psychology.
Shivashtie Poonwassie has exhibited regionally in and around London and has clients in the UK, Ireland and Germany. Since being selected for her innovative designs to represent Buckingham New University in 2006 at the prestigious Tea for Two, IN/D Design Collective at the Nuova Fiera Milano, Rho-Pero, Milan Shivashtie has continued to exhibit in and around London including Andipa Gallery, Knightsbridge, London; 03 Gallery, Oxford Castle, Oxford; The Menier Chocolate Factory, London; Barn Galleries, Aston, Henley-on-Thames; Contemporary Ceramics, London.
