Graphic Design was Philip Thompson`s chosen career, achieving a HND. During his career in comercial art Phil worked for some very exciting clients such as `Natwest, Midlands, Prudential, Hewlett Packard and RSPCA`.
Creative freedom was limited which led Phil to discover his true passion, sculpture.
After achieving a BA Hons in sculpture, Phil began to specialize in portraits and abstract sculpture.
Philip Thompson enjoys the challenge of creating portraits, capturing an individuals character. His portraits are created in clay then cast in bronze. They are detailed and contain a lifelike quality. His portraits include Sarah Keays an ex-member of parliament.
Phil`s abstract work compliments his figurative work, giving him another perspective of manipulating form. His subject matter is varied, ranging from capturing human emotion to depicting the natural matrix created by movement and time. Phil has currently completed two public commissions, situated outside the new Stroud College and the entrance of Loughborough Sports Institute.
His chosen media for abtract sculpture include bronze, stainless steel and mild steel.
Philip Thompson has been working part time as a profesional sculptor for a few years. During this time he has undertaken several art related employments. Working at Aardman Animations has sharpened his eye for detail and quickened his creative time to meet deadlines. After three years of employment at Pangolin Foundry Phil has become proficient in the art of casting his work to the final stage of being cast in bronze.
He has taught in several schools around the south west of Britain and hopes to build upon this area.
I enjoy creating sculptures, using a visual language to enable the viewer to interpret the world about them in a different way.

My influences originate from the world around me. I am particularly inspired by the natural matrix of forms created through movement.
