White marble blocks that had been transformed into shapes. The fruit of man’s and nature’s mutual labour. Forms that we have never seen, never heard of before, but felt that they exist for sure, if nowhere else but in our subconscious, in our guts, in our dreams and in our yearnings. Positive and negative curves, swells, sharpness, loosely stretched arches. These and such concepts come to one’s mind seeing these beautiful statues. What makes the effect and quality so unambiguous is the incomparable white Greek marble’s structure and internal light, together with the artist’s ideas and thoughts, his talent and expertise. Istvan Demeter carved his dreams (our dreams?), his desires (our desires?) into white marble.”
Peter Veres’s exhibition opening speech.
