George Mavrikos is a Greek sculptor based in London. Mavrikos has worked worldwide with clay, wood, ephemeral and experimental material.
Born at Tripoli, Greece, and raised in Athens, George spent his childhood learning music and attending regular art classes. His first sculptural pieces in wood were created at this early age and became the blueprint for his later work.
George later moved to the UK where he attended higher education and since his graduation from a BA in fine arts he has dedicated his talent in developing unique sculptural pieces that interact with light and shape the space they are in.
The work of George Mavrikos can be found in private collections in Los Angeles, Tokyo and Stockholm.
The desire to sculpt, whether on stone, wood or build up with clay has been with me from an early age. Sculpting, for me, is an instinctive process and an expression. Despite my education and the various influences throughout my years as a sculptor my practice has conserved the brut aesthetic that defines the visual language of my work.
