For over 25 years, Brett Davis has worked in all facets of bronze sculpture, from welding, fabricating, chasing and fountain design. He has studied and created historical and specialized patina formulas for bronze and brass; for leading Canadian and International sculptors, galleries and museums. One of his many specialities, is performing restoration and conservation on historical bronzes and architectural features in the private and public sector; of which some can be found in Toronto, Ottawa, Hamilton, Charlottetown, PEI and Niagara Falls, Canada.

Through thousands of years of history, numerous civilizations have built magnificent monuments and sculptures to signify their political, social and religious needs that were created in extraordinary styles.

My sculptures are designed in both a figurative and contemporary architectural style combined with my newest works that replicate natural or quarried stone. The architectural works project a new renaissance of art in architecture derived from the ingenuity of our ancestors who combined the human form with structural elements and nature, while the figurative sculptures are based on an 19th century contemporary classical style.

I use bronze as my material of choice for its recognition as a noble metal, and for its longevity, durability and structural properties it possesses, and the extensive repertoire of patina colors.

The relationship to space is most significant in my large scale public works. They are designed to integrate into existing or new architecture or be incorporated into landscape designs, that harmonize with the environment and its natural surroundings through color, texture, size and form. Other works are created to symbolize the essence of a community, or made to immortalize a particular person, family or historic event that have become landmarks.

My work projects feelings of optimism, peace and tranquility, with an objective to compliment architectural designs and settings, and beautify parks and gardens.

Credentials

Biography

Brett Davis was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada in 1957. He graduated with honors from Toronto’s Central Technical School Special Fine Art Program in 1981 where he majored in classical sculpture and won The K. A. Griffith Award and The Peter Haworth Award for Meritorious Achievement. He’s been a member of The Sculptors Society of Canada since 1998. Through his studies, Brett became fascinated with the bronze casting process, while learning about ancient Greek and Roman sculpture and helped work in the school foundry. After graduation he sought employment in the foundry business where he gained experience from working at 2 different bronze art foundries and had the opportunity to work with many re - known Canadian artists. Brett still creates sculptures based on the classical style, but over the years with a love for architecture, he has developed a stylized abstract approach to his work. With over 35 years of experience, he specializes in the creation, installation and maintenance of custom and commissioned bronze works designed specifically for interior and exterior environments. He has gained international recognition as a bronze sculptor with works in Asia, United Kingdom, USA and Canada.

For many years, Brett Davis has worked extensively with many prominent landscaping firms in the public and private sector, integrating garden art, and site specific bronze sculptures and bronze water features into the landscape design.

His realistic figurative concepts are based on a 20th century classical style, that are designed as public monuments to immortalize a significant person, family or historic event that have become landmarks in the community and have been key in the promotion of culture and tourism.
