Dialogues with stone…… a way of communicating with life, and with nature, from both within and without…. a way to address human curiosities about the mysteries of life, to seek out our place in the scheme of things.
Anne Kampschulte moved to the province of Almeria in 1992. Since then she has worked as a sculptress, continually developing her technique of combining traditional manual methods with machine-working of stone and marble.
Afinity with stone is fundamental to her expression as an artist. Interacting with the material opens doors to explore the world of its feelings. To think like stone and to respect its characteristics go hand in hand with working directly with it, and give rise to a new form in complete harmony with its nature. The shaping is an organic, ongoing dialogue which gives the freedom to incorporate new ideas which arise out of the process itself.
Water landscapes
Movements of air and water, the process of drying out and organic activity are fundamental to creativity.
Shapes repeat themselves like symbols of infinity reaching for the sky or make ornate decoration in sandstone relief.
Such sculptural imagery is characteristic of the life process of both humanity and the natural world and presents Anne with a peaceful alternative in this bellicose world run by politicians at odds with life.
All is water
“All is water and the world is full of gods” Thales de Milet
While the sculptures of the early years embraced the feminine theme, later works seek a direct contact with nature. This is not a contradiction, rather a search for origins. Our fundamental education about life, as demonstrated in everything around us, is the principal theme of the sculptor, one further step along the road she has been travelling for many years in dialogue with stone.
Desert footprints
Landscape and growth forms, charcterized by the desert enviroment of Almer?a province, reflect the personal feelings from the sculptress Anne Kampschulte towards nature.
The desert is reflected in her stone sculptures, in forms which appear to have been created by wind, sun and water. These pieces express her love of this environment and invite you almost to caress the desert itself.
I live and work trusting in my feminine intuition.
“Reflection on drought as a theme of the work has taken me as sculptress to the limits of the possibilities of the material and the spirit of the sculpture. From this point the concepts are born.”
“Water as a vital component of life itself gives life its form. Moving shapes result from moving water. Although we all know it to be true, and it is so very simple, for me it was a fundamental discovery in creating my sculpture.?.
